What is Women’s Health Physiotherapy?

“Make yourself a priority once in a while. Its not selfish. Its necessary.”

Our Women’s Health team have honed their skills specialising in the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of all disorders affecting the pelvis and pelvic floor, for women of all ages and stages of life.

This includes: pelvic girdle pain and pregnancy related issues; abdominal rehab and optimising recovery post birth, the prevention and treatment of pelvic floor conditions such as bladder, bowel, prolapse and sexual dysfunction as well as ongoing advice for health and fitness.

What to expect

Initial Consultation-

Your first session is for you to get to know your physio and for her to get to know you and your body: your symptoms, your concerns, any prior investigations/treatment you have had and what your goals are. Within this session you will be assessed physically, which may include an internal examination of your pelvic floor. Together you will then formulate goals and a plan to reach them.

Follow Up Treatment Sessions-
Guided by your physio, you will have either 30min, 45min or 60min treatments which – like all treatments at Reform – will be a combination of modalities best suited to you and your goals. These may include: hands-on work, acupuncture, exercise rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, Pilates and reformer Pilates. Your physio will continuously reassess you throughout, to ensure you reach your goals as quickly as possible. They may also refer you to other members of the Reform team depending on your developing needs.

Mummy MOT

Pregnancy is the most natural of events, but recovery can be a struggle; especially the first time, it can be difficult to know what you can and can’t do and what is normal. Our team is here for you! We can check-in with you pre and post-birth, or further down the line.

A mummy MOT will involve a thorough assessment of your posture, abdominals and pelvic floor as well as a functional assessment to address any musculoskeletal concerns you may have to ensure you can get exercising confidently and safely and back to doing all of the things that you love!

Virtual Pre and Post natal Physio-Led Pilates classes

These classes are a graded strengthening programme focused on maintaining efficient core stability, strength and postural awareness whilst helping you restore your pelvic floor and reduce your risk of developing any aches or pains.

You will also be concentrating on breathing and relaxation methods to bring peace and awareness throughout and after your pregnancy.

Testimonials

Having felt very unfit due to lack of exercise I started with Emma some weeks ago to improve flexibility and strength and am loving getting my body moving more. Also I feel so secure and comfortable with the workout programme Emma chooses which is nicely challenging for my fitness level and makes me feel much better from week to week!! Just what I needed.

Since I started working with Emma Law my lifts have improved to the point where I am considering record attempts in my weight and age category, so Pilates works for powerlifting! Thanks Emma.

Emma was excellent in helping me get strong enough to ski again after a complicated knee fracture. She is extremely knowledgeable, encouraging and positive. She worked with me in the gym and tailor-made an exercise plan to work on. I am back enjoying skiing! Thanks Emma!.

Pilates sessions with Emma have completely changed the way I move! My posture has improved, i'm more toned and a recurrent back/neck problem has all but disappeared. I highly recommend Emma's excellent classes.

Three years ago, at the age of 57, I decided to take up Pilates to help my body to move more freely and I am so glad that I found Emma who has been an amazing teacher, fully understanding my limitations and successfully working with me to improve my flexibility, core strength and posture.

I initially sort treatment to manage severe chronic neck pain from Cervical spondylitis. I was also due for a knee replacement, both degenerative conditions. Emma is highly skilled in the precise attention to the details of rehabilitation. Her ability to focus intently on 3 clients with different health issues in the same session is constant. It is that energetic approach that has resulted in my ability to build strength and to retain overall function. My neck pain has reduced considerably and I was able to recover from the knee surgery rapidly.
